• Hawkesbury Living Cancer Trust Chemotherapy Service opened on 7 April 2017.
• Fully credentialed 74 full-time and 10 temporary visiting medical officers for the next three years.
• Engaged PricewaterhouseCoopers to review key service areas and develop a Sustainable Performance Improvement Program.
• Recruited additional visiting medical officers to resource anaesthetics, orthopaedics, emergency medicine and otolaryngology services.
• Launched the Hawkesbury community’s first sleep study clinic under the specialist care of a respiratory and sleep medicine physician.
• Introduced new surgical oncology services providing patients with local access to specialist breast, endocrine and soft tissue tumour surgery.
• First facility in the world to successfully implement a new remote access upgrade to the K2 Guardian™ monitoring system for antenatal women, ensuring improved outcomes for mothers and babies during labour.
• Installed Braun’s Instacount® system for digital management and sterilisation of surgical equipment.
  Purchased two colonoscopes, two gastroscopes and one paediatric colonoscope.
• First-year registered nurses transitioning from university to the workforce at an acute facility are, for the first time, completing a mental health rotation at St John of God Richmond Hospital.
• Perioperative nurses from Nepean, Blacktown and Mt Druitt Hospitals and St John of God Richmond Hospital attended an Operating Theatres Perioperative Training Day.
• New wireless internet network and new digital Voice Over Internet Protocol phone system installed.
  Caregivers from across the facility attended an inaugural Child Protection Targeted Training, organised in collaboration with Nepean Hospital’s Integrated Violence Response Service.

People

• Review of the organisational structure resulted in new appointments – Director of Medical Services, Dr David Doolan; Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Community Health, Scott Daczko; Deputy Director Community and Allied Health, Colin Ellis; Nurse Manager Operating Suite and Perioperative Services, Sonia Jones; Nurse Unit Manager Day Surgery, Melanie Talbot; Nurse Unit Manager Maria Lock Katica Siric; Quality and Development Manager, Linda Rudd; and Occupational Health and Safety Manager, Tina Thew.

Community

• Hawkesbury District Health Service hosted Pope Francis’ ‘Year of Mercy’ Cross and Relics. The Way of Mercy Celebration incorporated the signing of a joint inaugural Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nursing Agreement between St John of God Health Care in NSW and the Australian Catholic University.
• Mission worked closely with local community groups to plan and commence construction of a new patient-focused Healing Garden.
• The Community Board of Advice worked closely with the community, undertaking 14 community forums and advocating on health issues, trends, and community needs to support the management of Hawkesbury District Health Service.
• Created a series of Indigenous works of art to respect and honour our Foundation Day theme.
  Preschool teachers attended Allied Health’s new Play to Learn Workshop.
• The United Hospital Auxiliary – Hawkesbury Branch hosted the United Hospital Auxiliary’s Regional Conference. More than 100 United Hospital Auxiliary volunteers from the Western metropolitan region attended the conference.

• Appoint Director Emergency Department, Dr Suzanne Brady.
• Implement the Sustainable Performance Improvement Program initiatives.
• Complete the construction of the patient-focused Healing Garden.
